There's Nothing to Eat in this House

by Liz Flynn

School holidays are here and I’m glad you are home

Our place is a great spot to relax or be alone

But it’s only a day before you start to moan

“There’s nothing to eat in this house!”

I watch as you wander from pantry to fridge

And stare inside hoping that something will give

But sooner or later you’ll cry out in grief

“There’s nothing to eat in this house!”

Let me tell you all about food my darlings

I shop once a week and buy all your fave things

Fresh bread and cereal, chips and cheese rings

So there’s plenty to eat in this house!

But it’s not my fault if you are so bored

That in one day you finish all I have bought

When I have been hungry and desperately sought

There’s always something to eat in the house.

Sure the chips have all gone and you’ve emptied the fruit plate

And the juice that I bought was gone in a day

But there’s heaps left to snack on so how dare you say

There’s nothing to eat in this house.

There was certainly plenty to eat for our breakfast

Dad had his scrambled eggs, I had my toast.

Tonight we’ll be dining on mums specialty -  roast.

See? There’s plenty to eat in this house.

And in between meals Salada’s will do

And I could eat an apple or a banana (or two)

If you could just learn to cut up your own fruit

There’d be plenty you could eat in this house.

In two weeks you’ll be back to packed lunches each day

With sandwiches, fruit - and a treat by the way

Till then you won’t starve, so how dare you say

“There’s nothing to eat in this house!”

HAPPY SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!!!!
